Good to know
  • Rough weather can delay or cancel open speedboat crossings. Check conditions before you book a boat, not after.

Boat Timetable
Good to know
  • The slow ferry is the cheapest and most frequent. Speedboats and the fast catamaran cost more but save time.
  • Check conditions in the weather card above if the sea looks rough before you travel.
๐Ÿš•

Taxi fares

Koh Samet has no private cars. Every taxi is a fixed-fare songthaew, no haggling.
Good to know
  • Pier station is the closest to The Cocoon, taxis are waiting as you get off the ferry.
  • Charter (the whole vehicle) makes sense for groups of three or more, or if you're in a hurry.
  • Confirm the price with the driver before you board, even though fares are fixed.

House rules

Nothing complicated, just the things that make shared living work for everyone.
๐Ÿคซ Quiet after 10pm

Voices low, no hairdryers, phones on silent. Early risers get the same courtesy at their end of the day.

๐ŸŽ’ Pack the night before

Early checkout before 8am? Pack your bag before you sleep. Zips and rustling in the dark wake everyone.

โ„๏ธ Leave the air-con running

Comfortable range is 23โ€“26ยฐC. Nudge it, don't switch it off. Struggling with the temperature? Come find us.

๐Ÿ›Œ Stick to your bunk

Please don't move to a different bed, even if it looks empty. It may already belong to someone.

๐Ÿงด Use your basket and locker

Toiletries in your numbered basket, passport and valuables in your locker. Keeps things simple for everyone.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Rinse the sand off

Hose is right outside the entrance. Ten seconds before you come in keeps the dorm and bedding clean.

๐Ÿšฟ Toilet paper in the bin

Island plumbing can't handle paper. Use the bidet hose, dry off, and bin the tissue next to the toilet.

๐Ÿœ No food in the dorm

Smells travel fast in the heat and attract insects quickly. Keep eating to the common area.

๐Ÿ”ฆ Torch, not the main light

Coming in late or up early? Use your phone torch. Even a quick flash of the main light wakes light sleepers.

โฐ One alarm, get up when it goes

Set it for when you actually need to leave, and turn it off the first time. Repeated snoozing is hard to sleep through.

๐Ÿšช No outside guests in the dorm

Dorms are for registered guests only. Friends you've met on the island are very welcome in the common area.

Also worth knowing
  • Keep walkways and bunk ladders clear of bags and towels, they're a trip hazard in the dark.
  • Wet clothes and towels go on the rack outside, not inside the dorm.
  • Used cups and bowls go in the green bowl in the common area, that's our signal something needs washing.
  • Keep the dorm door closed behind you, five minutes open is enough to let the mosquitoes in.

Two walk-in clinics on the island, a pharmacy in the village, and a mainland hospital about 45 minutes away by boat and road.

Our honest take Bangkok Rayong Clinic opposite us is genuinely good, we've seen it handle real emergencies well. For anything serious, it means a boat transfer to the mainland, which isn't fast. Get travel insurance with medical evacuation cover before you arrive, it's not optional. If you rent a motorbike, wear a helmet, most policies won't cover you without one.
