A proper night’s sleep

Most hostels make you choose between social and quiet. We built The Cocoon around not making you choose — every bunk is designed around one question: what would actually make us want to stay here?

Bunks that don’t move

Our beds are custom-built and fixed into the wall, not flat-pack frames bolted together. No wobble, no creak, no feeling it when your bunkmate climbs down at 3am.

Your own space behind the curtain

Thick blackout curtains close off your bunk completely. Sleep in, read with the personal light, or just shut the world out for an hour.

Good to know
  • Hotel-quality mattress and bedding
  • Personal reading light and charging shelf
  • Universal plug sockets and USB ports
  • Individual locker
  • Full air-conditioning — not just a fan

Bathrooms that keep up

8Beds
2Showers
2Toilets

That ratio is on purpose. You’re sharing with one other person, not queuing behind a dozen — no morning rush, no waiting your turn.

We deep clean daily, not a quick wipe-down between guests. Free shampoo and shower gel are stocked in every shower, and the pressure and hot water are consistent. That shouldn’t need saying, but on Koh Samet it often does.

A place to actually hang out

The lounge is air-conditioned, there’s a book exchange, board games, and bean bags outside if you’d rather be in the open air. Netflix is on the communal TV for when nobody feels like talking. Breakfast is free every morning and the coffee is proper filter coffee — not instant.

May is from Lampang and has lived on Samet for over twelve years. Between us we’ve got more than two decades of backpacking, here and everywhere else. If you want to know which beach to swim at or where locals actually eat, ask us directly — or have a look through our Koh Samet guides.

Who stays at The Cocoon

We’ve built this place for travellers who want real connection without the chaos, and a proper night’s sleep to actually enjoy the island the next day.

Solo travellers

The atmosphere is warm and social — most guests leave having made at least one friend worth keeping.

Groups of friends

Book multiple beds in the 8-bed dorm and stay together without splitting into separate hotel rooms.

Digital nomads

Fast WiFi, decent spots to work, and a community that doesn’t need explaining.

Mature travellers, 30+

You still love the hostel spirit but you’ve earned the right to skip the chaos. That’s the vibe here.

Backpackers who value rest

If you’ve done the party circuit and want somewhere to actually recover between adventures, this is that place.

First-time hostel guests

A good place to start — all the social atmosphere, none of the parts that make budget travel feel grim.

Not a great fit? If you’re after nightly bar crawls and a party dorm scene, we’re probably not your place — though Koh Samet’s nightlife is easy enough to find. You just won’t be sleeping in the middle of it.
