Tucked quietly along the island path, this sacred shrine is dedicated to the Naga and the Buddha – symbols of protection, spirituality, and good fortune. A place of genuine local reverence, not a tourist attraction.

By the shore at Sai Kaew stands a monument to one of Thai literature’s most enduring love stories. From Phra Aphai Mani, the mermaid and her child represent devotion, sacrifice, and the bond between mother and child – set against the island that inspired the poem.

Hidden among the trees is the island’s only temple – a small, working Buddhist monastery where monks live and local life continues quietly. A calmer, more grounded side of Koh Samet than you’ll find on the beach. Dress modestly and visit respectfully.

The west-facing shores, particularly Ao Phrao, catch the full show as the sun drops. Pick your spot, wait it out, and you’ll see why people keep coming back to this island.

After dark, the beach comes alive. Performers spin and throw flames along the main shoreline most nights – it’s free to watch and worth staying up for. Timing varies, so ask at reception when to head down.
